Supreme Court to Hold Two Criminal Sessions in November

The Supreme Court in Kampala will conduct two criminal appeal sessions in November 2025, during which a total of26 appeals are expected to be heard.

The first session, a two-day sitting, will be held from November 11-12, while the second, a one-day session, is scheduled for November 20.

Ahead of the sessions, the Registrar of the Supreme Court, HW Ayebare Thadius Tumwebaze, convened a preparatory meeting with key stakeholders to review readiness and address any potential gaps that could affect the smooth conduct of the hearings.

The meeting brought together representatives from the Uganda Prisons Service, Uganda Police Force, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), defence lawyers, and support staff.

In his remarks, HW Tumwebaze underscored the importance of early coordination among all parties. He emphasized that effective communication between the Prisons Service, prosecutors, and defence counsel is critical to ensuring appellants are readily available for hearing.

He further urged state briefs and defence lawyers to engage their clients well ahead of hearings, either physically or virtually, to guarantee adequate preparation. He also reminded them of their professional duty to guide and counsel appellants throughout the process.
